Los autores recogen categorías de análisis de diversos modelos para proponer una metodología que considera el tratamiento didáctico del contenido matemático, el lenguaje gráfico-simbólico, los problemas y ejercicios y las innovaciones metodológicas y modelo de enseñanza - aprendizaje. Se establecen las características de los libros de texto de cada una de las tres etapas en las que se divide el periodo analizado.
