Abstract

A part of an investigation regarding position value and its didactics is presented. In such research, a study was designed to explore the potential of a relationships approach to place value structure. This was done through the application of a course, which enables the student to attend to the relationships between components of the positional value structure. The didactic application was made in two groups of 3rd grade of primary school. In one of them, the location of the units of each order of magnitude was used in the space provided on the worksheet, with adjacent fields. And in the other, the representation of the units in the abacus was used. The purpose is to present the effects of the didactic course with respect to the relationships attended by the students corresponding to each order of magnitude. This is necessary for students to evoke and understand these relationships.
