MATHEMATICAL NEGATIVITY: HISTORIC BACKGROUND TO INTEGERS

Abstract

Expressions of mathematical negativity appeared in history many centuries before integers emerged. This fact contributed to solve many problems through Algebra. The work described in this article is based on three historical episodes that exhibit crucial moments in the path towards the extent of natural number domain to integers.
