Abstract

We discuss one of a set of activities designed with the purpose of helping students in their first contact with the notion of functions with two variables. We discuss five strategies developed by students in the environment of Derive 6.1 in order to produce two independent movements for a point. The metaphor "a moving point that jumps in one direction and slides in other direction" helps students to produce such point on three dimensions. The production process of movements of the point allows students realize indepe
