We present background on the validation of a cognitive model for learning the vector space R2. As a finding, we highlight the role played by associating a pair of real numbers to a homogeneous linear equation (of two unknowns) to induce algebraic structure to its solution set. In addition, evidence is given of how the use of a parameter, to write a solution of a homogeneous linear equation, is an important factor that highlights the weighting of a solution by a scalar as an operation that is associated with the solution set of a homogeneous linear equation. All of the above in close relation to the construction of the vector space R2.
