PERCENTAGE: AN ENCOUNTER BETWEEN RATIOS, FRACTIONS AND DECIMALS IN SCHOOL MATHEMATICS

Abstract

We analyze the use of ratios, fractions and decimals by middle school students when solving percentage situations. We highlight the need to search for ways in which middle school students could approach a wider articulation between these notions. In particular, we point out the importance of working with the notion of ratio, on which percentage relies.
